Who we are

Composergram is run by Esther Hargittai, who is the data controller for personal data collected through the service. Contact: estichoir@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

• Pupil classroom data — an imaginary character name, chosen look and the comments pupils write. Pupils do not give their real name or email. Purpose: running the classroom feed (contract performance / legitimate interests of the school).
• Teacher data — class names, passkeys and moderation actions. Purpose: providing and securing the service.
• Purchase data — email address and order details. Purpose: delivering what you bought and handling support (contract; legal obligation for records).
• Contact messages — what you send us by email. Purpose: answering you.
• Technical data — IP address, device and browser information and basic error logs. Purpose: security, fraud prevention and fixing problems (legitimate interests).

Who we share data with

• Service providers who host and run the app for us.
• Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for selling the product, payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
• Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where needed.
• Authorities, where the law requires it.

We never sell personal data. Some providers may process data outside the UK/EEA; where they do, appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses are used.

How long we keep it

Classroom data is kept while the class is in use and deleted or anonymised when a teacher removes it or it is no longer needed. Purchase records are kept as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

You may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Write to estichoir@gmail.com; we reply within one month. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and passkey-protected teacher areas to protect data.

Cookies and local storage

We use only essential browser storage — for example to remember your pupil character and language choice. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can clear this storage in your browser settings.
